La Sete
Marie-Claire Blais
Translation of Federica Di Lella
In a large villa on an unnamed island in the Gulf of Mexico, both watershed between infinite worlds, three days and three nights of celebration are called to greet Vincent’s birth, and the end of a century. During the magnificent festivities the many guests of Mélanie and Daniel collide with each other in a whirlwind flow of indomitable feelings, passing by the witness of a choral narration that flows restless in search of the satisfaction of the inextinguishable “Sete” that unites all the protagonists of this dizzying choral novel: the thirst for drunkenness, beauty, and finally justice.
